Franck Muller unveiled the Yachting collection alongside the first Franck Muller Yacht, built with The Italian Sea Group, at the 2015 Monaco Yacht Show, and gave the watches the same slender curves as the boat. This is a sports watch with a real vessel behind its design: the Franck Muller Vanguard Yachting ref. V 45 SC DT 5N BL.
The dial reads like a navigator's instrument: a compass rose at the centre, lines of latitude and longitude beyond it and bearings at the edge, all in deep blue within a curved case of 18k rose gold. Franck Muller paints and applies the Yachting's numerals by hand, so they stand in relief above the dial. The case is the Vanguard, launched in 2013 as a sportier reinterpretation of the 1992 Cintrée Curvex.
Time+Tide singled out that navigational dial and said the Yachting looks and feels entirely different from a black and red Vanguard. Franck Muller's Nicholas Rudaz told Boat International that the yacht took its inspiration from the watches, and a decade after its launch the Vanguard was still a house bestseller.
