The Black Bay's first in-house generation meets its naval colourway in the Tudor Black Bay ref. M79230B-0008: a black dial beneath a matte blue bezel, with the crown tube anodised in the same blue. Its line won the GPHG Revival Prize in 2013, on Tudor's first entry.
From 2016 Tudor fitted the 79230 series with its in-house MT5602. It is COSC-certified, its silicon balance spring resists magnetism, and about 70 hours of reserve carries it through a weekend off the wrist. Look for the Snowflake hour hand, drawn from Tudor's 1969 catalogue, and a blue bezel that echoes the French Navy's "Tudor Blue" divers.
Writing for aBlogtoWatch, James Stacey traced the black-dial, blue-bezel pairing to vintage military Tudor divers. Tudor's redesigned Black Bay has done away with the colour-matched crown tube, and WatchCharts and Watchfinder both list this reference as discontinued. The family also has auction standing: Bonhams sold ref. M79230B-0009, a 32-piece Royal Squadron special edition, for £19,125 including premium in 2022.
